JMLPE

James Madison Legacy Project Expansion

The James Madison Legacy Project Expansion (JMLPE) seeks to improve professional development and instruction in the Center for Civic Education’s We the People: The Citizen and the Constitution curriculum for students in middle and high school, with a specific focus on underserved populations.

JMLPE specifically developed new resources for We the People educators that encourage instruction fostering positive civic education outcomes among English learners, students with disabilities, and students of color. The program provides summer institutes, professional learning communities, and 52 Professional Learning Units (PLUs) for participating educators.

During the 2024-2025 school year, JMLPE operated in 13 states including West Virginia. The program is funded through the Education Innovation and Research Program of the U.S. Department of Education.
